Best Peptides for Men: What Each One Does and What the Research Shows

In This Article

Peptides are short chains of amino acids that send a signal to one part of your body. Each peptide sends a different signal, so the right one depends on what you want to fix. This guide sorts 28 peptides by goal and explains, in plain words, what each one does and how strong the research is.

How Unify Care can help: Our physicians can prescribe a peptide only when it is an FDA-approved medicine, and only after a full health assessment shows it is right for you. We do not prescribe, sell or supply peptides that are not FDA-approved. Our concierge peptide therapy service is built on consultation and monitoring. If you are interested in peptides, we help you pick the best option for your goal during the consultation. If you already use one, we help you monitor it safely.

Thirteen more peptides men ask about are covered further down.

Which Peptides for Men Are FDA Approved?

Only five peptide medicines on this list are FDA approved, and some are approved for something other than what most men want.

  • Tirzepatide (Zepbound, Mounjaro): weight loss, type 2 diabetes, and moderate to severe sleep apnea in adults with obesity
  • Semaglutide (Wegovy, Ozempic): weight loss and type 2 diabetes
  • Tesamorelin (Egrifta): extra belly fat in adults with HIV who have a fat-storage condition, and nothing else
  • Bremelanotide (PT-141, Vyleesi): low sex drive in women before menopause, not in men
  • HCG: low testosterone caused by weak signals from the brain

Everything else in this guide is not FDA approved. That means no one has proven it is safe and effective, and Unify Care does not prescribe it.

Peptides for Weight Loss and Belly Fat

This is the one area where the research is strong and the approvals are real.

Tirzepatide

Tirzepatide is a weekly injection that copies two gut hormones that control hunger and blood sugar. In a 72-week trial of 2,539 adults, people on the highest dose lost 20.9% of their body weight on average, compared with 3.1% on placebo. It has the strongest results in this guide.

Because appetite drops a lot, muscle can be lost too. Eating enough protein and doing strength training matter even more while you are on it.

Semaglutide

Semaglutide is a weekly injection that copies one gut hormone, GLP-1, to lower hunger. In a 68-week trial of 1,961 adults, people lost 14.9% of their body weight on average, compared with 2.4% on placebo.

Our medical weight loss program is built around these two medicines because they have real results, not just theory. Treatment starts with your lab results and a full assessment.

Tesamorelin

Tesamorelin is a daily injection that raises growth hormone to shrink deep belly fat around the organs. It is approved only for adults with HIV who have a specific fat-storage condition. A smaller trial also tested it in adults with obesity and low growth hormone.

Its label says it is not for weight loss because it does not change body weight. It can change where fat sits without changing what the scale says.

Peptides for Muscle and Recovery

These peptides raise growth hormone, which helps the body repair itself. None of them has been proven to build muscle in healthy men.

CJC-1295 with Ipamorelin

This is a pair of injections that both push the body to release more growth hormone. A human study of CJC-1295 showed it raises growth hormone and IGF-1, a related growth signal. No study has measured whether men on this pair build more muscle than men who just train well. Both are banned in competitive sport.

It does nothing without the basics. Training, enough protein and good sleep are what build muscle.

Sermorelin

Sermorelin is a short-acting copy of the brain's signal to release growth hormone. It was once approved for children who did not grow normally. The maker stopped selling it in 2008, and FDA noted this was not for safety or effectiveness reasons. No study has tested it for body shape in healthy men.

PEG-MGF

PEG-MGF is a changed version of a growth signal muscles make after exercise. It has only been studied in animals, and it is banned in competitive sport.

Peptides for Injury, Tendon and Gut Recovery

These peptides are popular with men who have old injuries. The research is almost all in animals.

BPC-157

BPC-157 is based on a protein that protects the stomach lining. A 2025 review found many animal studies on tendon, muscle and gut healing, but almost no human data.

In July 2026, an FDA advisory panel voted 8 to 6 to recommend it for pharmacy use. FDA's own scientists had advised against it. The vote is not binding, and it is not an approval.

TB-500

TB-500 is a small piece of a natural repair protein called thymosin beta-4. Most of the impressive research was done on the full protein, not this piece. The same advisory panel recommended it by 8 votes to 6, which again is not an approval.

KPV

KPV is three amino acids taken from a larger natural hormone. It lowered inflammation in cell and animal studies of the gut. The advisory panel also recommended it, but no human trials exist.

Peptides and Testosterone: What They Can and Cannot Do

Most peptides are not a testosterone treatment. This is one of the most common mix-ups in this area.

Growth hormone peptides such as CJC-1295, ipamorelin and sermorelin work on growth hormone, which is a different system from the one that makes testosterone. They are not designed to raise testosterone, and no study shows they treat low testosterone.

The peptides that do affect testosterone work further up the chain of signals that runs from your brain to your testicles.

Kisspeptin

Kisspeptin is a natural hormone that starts the chain of signals telling your body to make testosterone. In short hospital studies, kisspeptin given into a vein raised testosterone in healthy men. In a 2023 study of 32 men with low sex drive, a 75-minute infusion boosted brain activity linked to desire and increased erection response by up to 56% compared with placebo.

These were short tests given through a drip, not long-term treatment. No study shows kisspeptin works as an ongoing testosterone treatment.

HCG

HCG is a hormone medicine approved for men whose low testosterone comes from weak signals from the brain. Men on testosterone therapy sometimes ask about it to keep fertility, which is a different use from its approval.

If Your Testosterone Is Actually Low

Peptides are not the fix for low testosterone. A proper diagnosis needs morning blood tests on separate days, plus tests of the brain signals that control testosterone. Those results show where the problem is, and that decides the treatment.

Our physicians can run that assessment and discuss testosterone replacement therapy when your results support it.

Peptides for Libido and Sexual Function

PT-141 (Bremelanotide)

PT-141 works on the brain to raise sexual desire, rather than on blood flow like Viagra. It is approved only for low sex drive in women before menopause. Its label says it is not for men and not for improving sexual performance.

In the trials behind its approval, 40% of people had nausea and 20.3% had flushing. That is worth knowing before anyone tries it.

Peptides for Skin, Hair and Joints

GHK-Cu

GHK-Cu is a copper peptide your body makes, and your levels drop with age. Human studies on skin found it helped collagen and skin firmness, mostly in creams. There are no human studies on hair or joints. People whose bodies have trouble clearing copper should avoid it.

Collagen Peptides

Collagen peptides are collagen broken into small pieces you take as a powder. Two trials, one in active men and one in older men losing muscle, found better strength and body shape when collagen was taken alongside strength training. Collagen is low in leucine, the amino acid that builds muscle, so use it with a full protein source, not instead of one.

Peptides for Focus and Immune Support

Semax

Semax is a nasal spray used in Russia for focus and recovery after stroke. Most of the research is in Russian and has not been repeated elsewhere. An FDA advisory panel recommended it for pharmacy use in July 2026, but the vote is not binding.

Selank

Selank is the calmer partner of Semax, used for stress and anxiety. Its research comes mostly from small Russian trials, and it was not part of the July 2026 FDA review.

Thymosin Alpha-1

Thymosin alpha-1 is made by the thymus gland, which trains immune cells. It is approved in some other countries for hepatitis and immune conditions, but not in the US. FDA lists it among compounding ingredients that may carry safety risks.

11 More Peptides Men Ask About

None of these is FDA approved, and Unify Care does not prescribe any of them.

The word peptide describes a shape, not an effect. A weight loss peptide and a skin peptide have almost nothing in common.

Peptides for Men Over 40 and Over 50

With age, the goal should be to fix one or two clear problems, not to stack many peptides.

  • Start with blood tests. Check testosterone, thyroid, blood sugar and cholesterol before choosing anything.
  • Weight first, if it is the issue. Tirzepatide and semaglutide have the strongest results in this guide.
  • Protect your muscle. Strength training and enough protein do more for muscle after 50 than any peptide here. In the collagen trials in older men, training did most of the work.
  • Old injuries and recovery. The peptides men ask about most here, like BPC-157 and CJC-1295 with ipamorelin, are not FDA approved and lack human proof. Talk to a physician before using them.

Side Effects and the Blood Tests That Catch Them

Peptides that raise growth hormone are the group to watch most closely. They can push blood sugar up and change how your thyroid works, and you won't notice either without testing.

A safe plan checks your blood before you start and again partway through. A baseline panel usually includes:

  • Testosterone, the brain signals that control it, and estradiol
  • Thyroid tests
  • Fasting blood sugar and HbA1c, a 3-month blood sugar average
  • Cholesterol, liver and kidney tests
  • IGF-1, if a growth hormone peptide is involved

A metabolic health assessment covers these and gives you numbers to measure against later.

Other side effects to know about: weight loss medicines often cause nausea at first. Melanotan II darkens moles, which can hide early signs of skin cancer.

Where Peptides Come From and Why It Matters

A medicine from a licensed pharmacy and a vial bought online are not the same thing.

Online sellers often label vials "research use only" or "not for human use." In an August 2026 warning letter, FDA told one seller that its tirzepatide, semaglutide, retatrutide and tesamorelin products were unapproved drugs, despite those labels. FDA pointed out that the seller also sold the water used to mix injections, which showed the products were meant for people.

With a vial bought online, the purity, strength, cleanliness and even what is inside are whatever the seller says. No one checks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a best age to start peptides?

No. There is no research showing a best age to start. The right time depends on a real problem you want to fix and what your blood tests show, not on your birthday.

Do peptides increase testosterone or libido?

Most don't. Growth hormone peptides are not a testosterone treatment. Kisspeptin raised testosterone in short hospital studies, but it is not approved and has not been tested as a long-term treatment. For libido, PT-141 is approved for women only, and kisspeptin improved desire and erections in one short study of 32 men. Neither is approved for men, so low libido or low testosterone should start with blood tests.

Why are semaglutide and tirzepatide dominating the conversation around peptides?

Because they are the peptides with large human trials and FDA approval. Tirzepatide led to 20.9% average weight loss and semaglutide to 14.9% in their main trials. Most other peptides have only animal studies or small trials, so these two are the ones doctors can prescribe with real results behind them.

What peptides help with muscle retention?

No peptide has been proven to protect muscle in people. On weight loss medicines, part of the weight lost can be muscle, and strength training plus enough protein are what protect it. Collagen peptides helped strength in older men, but only alongside training. Growth hormone peptides are often promoted for muscle, but no study has shown they help healthy men keep or build it.

Which peptides are banned in sport?

Growth hormone peptides such as CJC-1295, ipamorelin, sermorelin, GHRP-6 and IGF-1 LR3 are banned in competitive sport, as are PEG-MGF and TB-500. If you are tested, check the current banned list before using anything.

Does Unify Care prescribe peptides for men?

Only FDA-approved peptide medicines, such as tirzepatide and semaglutide, and only after a full health assessment shows they are right for you. We do not prescribe, sell or supply peptides that are not FDA-approved. Our peptide therapy service is consultation and monitoring: we help you pick the best option for your goal, and we monitor you if you already use a peptide.

How Unify Care Can Help

Picking a peptide from a list is the easy part. The useful step is finding out what your body actually needs.

  • If an FDA-approved medicine fits your goal, such as tirzepatide or semaglutide for weight loss, our physicians can prescribe it after a full assessment with lab work.
  • If you are interested in peptides, we review your health and goals during the consultation and help you pick the best option for you, and we tell you plainly when something won't do what it promises.
  • If you already use one, we monitor you with blood tests and regular check-ins, so problems are caught early.

Our physicians see patients at home and by telehealth across Southern California, with 24/7 access to a doctor. Book a consultation or call (949) 979-6956. If you prefer clinical environment, you are welcome to our clinic in Redlands.
